Encircle Salt Lake City

John Williams Home

Restauranteur | Preservationist | Social Activist | Philanthropist | Friend to All

The Salt Lake City Encircle is dedicated to Encircle's founding inspiration, John Williams.

The following is a beautiful tribute.

This home thrives thanks to the hours, donations, and love poured into it by the donors, volunteers, and the community of Salt Lake City.

Opened on February 14, 2019, in downtown Salt Lake City, the John Williams Home is the second Encircle home to open in Utah.

John Williams’ life was the inspiration behind Encircle. John was a gay man who came out over 50 years ago in Salt Lake City. He was a renovationist and preservationist in Salt Lake City, and he started the Downtown Alliance and was an LGBTQ+ activist and supporter. Above all, John simply loved other people.

John simply loved other people.

John wanted Encircle to be a welcoming home for those who may not feel at home anywhere else, a place where people can connect with themselves and others. He wanted the youth to understand they should never feel shame for who they are, and they are beautiful as they are, and the world needs them.

We needed a place where LGBTQ+ youth could go that looked like home and felt like home.
