How would you feel alienation in an alien nation? When you are forced to choose one out of your six languages to express love, capacity, pain, and abandon the rest. When rainfall eludes you and your throat and lungs are parched with a nameless dry fear. And when rain falls once a year, it is nothing like the rains of your childhood - smelling faintly of Jasmine, Gardenia and garbage. You long for a monsoon where the skies explode, and the clouds are darker than your hair, and the sounds of rain last all night. Car headlights shine diffused through the windows of your urban childhood home, through wet, shimmery windowpanes, keeping you awake at night. You go to Youtube, search for "monsoon sounds," sip the strongest tea you can find which is pretty weak and wonder what misplaced wanderlust, what cursed ambition packaged and delivered you in a stranger suburbia where you are visible and invisible at the same time like single rays of light in bokeh.
